I distinctly recall a time about 6 years ago when I was really busy, running around like a headless chicken with work and other commitments. I felt like a mouse on a spinning wheel that I couldn't get off. I vividly remember thinking to myself how nice it would be to just have a sick day and have a genuine excuse to lie on the couch for a whole day under a blanket watching TV!
Instead of being sensible and taking a day off on holiday, booking in some ‘me' time to rejuvenate and refresh, I choose to wish for a sick day. What was I thinking!
No surprises what happened next, because when you pour a whole heap of desire and attention into something (good or bad) your mind power helps create the outcome in your life.
The next morning I woke up with a hint of a head cold, which set into full blown congestion within 24 hours and 2 days later I had a chest infection. As I wallowed under my blanket on the couch, that chest infection became bronchitis.
Long story short… 7 days laid up in bed feeling miserable was not the outcome I really wanted!
The mind + powerful emotion = a recipe for creating outcomes in life. This works really well when it's something we want, and yet when we accidentally create something negative in our life we're more likely to complain about our misfortune than to acknowledge how powerful we are!
Our thoughts and feelings have a massive impact on our health and on the outcomes we are creating. Mind and body are integrated and creating together. No one in their ‘right mind' these days goes around saying that the mind has nothing to do with the body. GET REAL! Sorry to be blunt, but my heart literally cries when I see people who have the power to contribute to their body's health and healing, but they ignore that gift. For example, if I see someone nearly about to keel over from stress who thinks that their stress has nothing to do with their health problems, I just about have a coronary myself!
How Does the Mind & Body Marriage Play Out?
Let's look at this stress thing as an example of how the mind and body are married together, as a powerful self-healing combo (or self-destruction combo as the case may be), because stress affects your health, including your heart (and we all need our hearts!)
Remember the last time you felt most stressed out or anxious. Something in your life at the time was causing you to feel stressed out. Maybe work was busy, maybe you had relationship troubles, perhaps money was tight… whatever the external circumstance was is irrelevant. The relevant point is that the ‘external' situation is what you were thinking about, worrying about, feeling pressured by, as perceived through your thoughts and experienced as feelings. Due to those thoughts/feelings your physical body became stressed. Stress is not a mental condition alone, nor it is a physical condition alone. Stress can make your heart beat rise, your stomach churn (literally) as your body chemistry shifts (nervous butterflies ring a bell?), headaches might come on, sleep patterns can be disturbed, appetite changes can arise, you might become fidgety (literally… biting nails, scratching, can't sit still, can't unwind/relax).
MIND & BODY ARE CONNECTED. Yes, there are many other factors affecting your health too, sure, but that doesn't take away from the truth that your mind impacts your health.
How can you use this knowledge to your benefit?
Well, if you are dealing with the physical ailments of stress or anxiety for example, and you are medicating for those… please also take a moment to consider the healing that can take place through your state of mind, which will also help your body to heal. Bring in a holistic approach to your well-being, because everything is connected.
Shifts in how you think, what you think and where you place your attention literally shifts your emotional response and impacts your body. People use meditation to relax their body, because meditation clears the mind, which in turn helps the body to unwind, which in turn has measurable impacts on health.

“Mind-body medicine pioneers and leaders in the New Age movement have been spouting off about how the mind can heal the body for decades. As a skeptical, science-minded physician, I was intrigued, but I had my doubts. What ensued was a deep dive into the medical literature to find out if I could prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the mind can heal the body. Seeking to move the notion of self-healing from the realm of the magical or even metaphysical, I also searched for evidence of a clear physiological mechanism that explains how positive thoughts and emotions might translate into cure for the body.
What I discovered blew my mind, shifted my paradigm about modern health care…” (excerpt sourced from www.lissarankin.com)

After dealing with the mind and body connection at the level of energy work (shifting beliefs and behaviors) for both myself and clients, I live from this truth every day and it has completely transformed my life, and my health. When I owned my mind-body connection and lived from the truth that my state of mind was impacting my health, and I adjusted my attitude and behaviors into alignment with this truth, the ailment I had suffered from for over 10 years literally disappeared within months.
