Longing for Belonging But Always Feel Like an Outsider

If you’ve ever felt like you’re on the outer, looking in.

Often these experiences are tied to something deeply within us, with roots in one of two places.

  1. Early experiences in life taught your nervous system that connection leads to pain — abandonment, rejection, or loss — so you now want belonging but you fear it at the same time. It’s a pull/push feeling.
  2. Or something hurt deeply, and you made a strong protective decision: I do not want belonging. It’s me against the world. I’ll do life on my own. It’s easier. People are too __” (insert!)

But here’s the truth your body and heart already know:

You are wired for connection.

And inside safe healthy community and connection we heal, we expand, we get to know our True Self through reflection. We co-regulate our system with people who are centered and heart-led, we relax and we OPEN to life!

Real belonging doesn’t begin with other people.

Because often all of the above also leads to abandoning ourselves, judging ourselves, being tough on ourselves. We no longer have safety even within our own mind, inner voice and body. Like a war is waging within.

Things change when you come home to yourself first, carrying an inner sense of “I belong to my Self,” then your identity shifts, your beliefs can shift, your nervous system starts to feel safer at home in your own inner world.

And then something powerful happens…

You stop waiting to be chosen, let in, allowed, validated.
You no longer fear connection as you feel safe inside.
You stop standing outside the circle, looking in.

And… even better…

You become the center of your own circle — you consciously create belonging by who you BE first, then where you go, who you choose to be around, and what you invite into your life.
